Mikalor Totally Leaktight

In the following video the R&D department at Mikalor Hose Clamps demonstrate that Mikalor clamps guarantee totally leaktight seals.

In this video we compare Mikalor clamps with other standard clamps and show how leaks occur after the application of standard clamps, whereas the Mikalor clamp guarantees total leaktightness.

In order to ensure a totally leaktight seal, the R&D department at Mikalor carried out tests in the most demanding conditions, as is shown in the video.

The test consisted in submerging the application in water and applying compressed air. Any leaks are immediately visible due to the bubbles which appear on the surface.

NORMS GOVERNING STEEL TYPES

Given the wide range of stypes of steel available on the market, a great many norms and regulations have come into existence which can vary from country to country.
In Spain, steel types are classified according to the norm UNE-EN 10020:2001, which substitutes the previous norm UNE-36010, while structural steels are classified according to the European norms EN 10025-2: 2004 and EN-10025-4: 2004.
However there are other international norms which are widely used to classify steel such as the American AISI norms (American Iron and Steel Institute) and ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) and the German DIN norms or ISO 3506.
The Mikalor catalogue contains a chart which uses both the DIN and AISI norms to describe what materials are used in the manufacture of our range of hose clamps and clips.

TIGHTENING TORQUE

One factor which is very important when discussing the application of a hose clamp is tightening torque.
Tightening torque is the force which should be applied when tightening a screw or nut. Torque is normally expressed using the unit of force multiplied by the distance in Newton-Metres (Nm). Torque wrenches or pneumatic screwdrivers, which can be calibrated to regulate the maximum torque applied, are used to tighten the clamp to the correct value.
Tightening torque creates the tension in the screw which allows the clamp to be fastened. This tension depends on the diameter and hardness of the screw and these parameters also affect the tightening torque which must be applied. Other variables which also affect the torque to be applied are the following: lubricants and other agents which facilitate the turning of the screw thereby generating different tensions in the screw.

The performance of a hose clamp is measured using a Polar Diagram.
The final result of the Polar Diagram is a graphic representation of the force exerted by the hose clamp on each sector of the dynamometer.
The diagram quantifies in daN the force which the clamp exerts on each of the 8 sectors, allowing the performance of the clamp to be evaluated. The most important aspect to be taken into account is the uniformity of the results. Ideally, all sectors of the clamp should exert a uniform force around the circumference of the band, without the appearance of peaks or troughs which would indicate potential for leaks.
